NDIS providers are registered by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. “Accreditation” more specifically applies to the Approved Quality Auditors overseen through JASANZ.

Confirm the audit scope
The NDIS Commission provides the initial scope of audit, including the relevant registration groups, Practice Standards and required audit type.

Complete an independent audit
Engage an Approved Quality Auditor for a verification audit or certification audit, depending on the risk and complexity of the supports.

Registration decision
The NDIS Commission considers the audit findings and the suitability of the provider and its key personnel before making its decision.

Maintain ongoing assurance
Keep evidence current and prepare for applicable mid-term, condition, out-of-cycle or renewal audits and regulatory action.
Verification audit
Lower-risk or lower-complexity supports
An Approved Quality Auditor conducts a desktop review of the documentary evidence required for the applicable verification module.
Certification audit
Higher-risk or more complex supports
The audit includes a desktop stage followed by onsite assessment of how policies, procedures and participant safeguards are implemented.

Registration depends on the supports and funding arrangements.
Registration is mandatory for specified services, including specialist disability accommodation, specialist behaviour support, plan management and supports delivered to participants with NDIA-managed funding. From 1 July 2026, supported independent living and NDIS digital platform providers must also be registered.
